1862 

Governor Stephen S. Harding (July 1862-June 1863)

April: Lincoln asks for 100 Utah Volunteers to protect Overland stage, mail routes, and Telegraph lines in Sweetwater County (now Wyoming). Lot Smith will head the Utah Volunteers 

June: Colonel Patrick Edward Connor and the Third California Volunteers leave Benecia, Barracks  California enroute to Camp Floyd/Fort Crittenden. Upon arrival and finding it unsuitable for military use the 3rd California continued on until the reached the site of present-day Fort Douglas. 

June 13-15: Siege at Fort Kingston (Morrissite War)

October 26: Flag is raised over Camp Douglas  


November 23: Skirmish near Providence Canyon, Providence, Utah between Camp Douglas Soldiers and Chief Bear Hunter . The expedition had been raised to rescue Ruben Van Ornum who had been kidnapped two years previous.
